Whoever is lucky enough to go on this scholarship should absorb as much as they can of the world around them and really enjoy the chance they are given. I learned that a lot of what I previously assumed to be complicated within the field of technology is actually not that much different conceptually from the technology we have available to us every day.
— Alex Parr

Why alex.

Alex has gone above and beyond to make an impact within Newburyport’s theatrical community.

As the Head of Stage Crew for the Institution for Savings Auditorium, Alex is the go-to technician for sound, lighting and rigging, along with coordinating needs with clients renting the space, scheduling all stage crew for events, and overseeing event execution. He’s not only the magic behind the curtain, but actively trains others. For example, when the space was recently renovated with a $350k upgrade to all technical systems, Alex attended all trainings for the new technology, then taught trainings for students and staff.

Alex is a hired contractor and volunteer at several of the local theaters in the community. He is knowledgeable on several platforms for lighting, sound design and execution.  Alexs is highly sought after for his skills, work ethic and incredible attention to detail.

According to Stephanie Williams, Performing Arts teacher:

  • “I depend on Alex.  And he rises to each and every occasion. He is easy to work with and brings a strong creativity to his technical knowledge. I have always said that one of the best parts of teaching is that we get to learn FROM our students, and I have learned and continue to learn so much from Alex.  He is a leader and an innovator and an enormous asset to our program.”

alex’s experience.
